WINNIPEG, MB:  Fit4Life Physiotherapy, a Winnipeg-based wellness centre offering physiotherapy, massage, acupuncture, and many other innovative treatments, is expanding its service offerings this October to include pediatric pelvic floor physiotherapy.  Pelvic Floor Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation is a specialized discipline that focuses on pelvic health.  In pediatric patients, pelvic floor work is primarily used to help resolve issues around bedwetting, incontinence, and constipation.  We would like to note this is NOT an internal exam. There are muscles exteriorly that contract at the same time as your pelvic floor that we can use this training to teach pelvic floor strengthening exercises. Much of the treatment is focused around  patient & parent education.

Fit4Life Physiotherapy was established by Tori Sloane in 2018.  After 8 years in private practice, her vision was to create a wellness centre that would support patients of all ages and fitness levels in staying active and healthy.  Hence her self made slogan “ Take care of your body and it will take care of you!”–F4L. Today, Fit4Life has grown into a thriving wellness hub with experienced practitioners offering services including pelvic floor physiotherapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, dry needling, custom foot orthotics, and adult and pediatric physiotherapy.  Located at 3-2665 Henderson Highway, Fit4Life proudly serves patients from East Kildonan and East Saint Paul as well as the broader Winnipeg community.

Pelvic floor physiotherapy is an increasingly in-demand service offering.  Often sought out by women during the postpartum period but also beneficial for men and women of all ages, it can be used to effectively treat a wide variety of conditions impacting the pelvis, lower back, and hips.  Parents are often interested in pediatric pelvic floor physiotherapy for children who struggle with issues including constipation, obstruction, bedwetting, various types of incontinence, pelvic pain, and more.

“A pelvic floor assessment may seem quite intimidating for families and children,” said Tori Sloane, (PODAIMA), BMR (PT), owner of Fit4Life Physiotherapy, “but it is so important to us that both the child and parent are comfortable throughout the appointment.  Unlike with adult populations,as stated above there is no internal assessment of the pelvic floor muscles with a child and education is a core component of our gentle, respectful, and positive treatment approach.”  She adds that Fit4Life welcomes questions about pediatric pelvic floor physiotherapy and looks forward to offering this important service that can help children and families successfully achieve their goals.

Fit4Life Physiotherapy will be offering pediatric pelvic floor services starting in November of 2024.  For more information about Fit4Life Physiotherapy and the services it provides, visit https://fit4lifephysio.com.
